I had never heard of The Courthouse Deli before Tuesday, but I was very grateful for stumbling upon it. Scott, his friend Casey, and I were downtown for the Food Truck Fare when we discovered this place. It is less than one block south of Court Square on North Main Street in a strip mall.
After walking around the Food Truck Fare, we wandered down Main Street trying to find a restaurant to satisfy our hunger. (If you remember, the food trucks were already almost sold out of everything.)
We saw this place and instantly were curious. We walk inside the tiny place and get in line. The menu has your every day burgers and sandwiches, but they also have a Cajun list as well. As much as we all love Cajun food, we stuck to the sandwiches. We were already in the mood for food truck cuisine, so this fell along those lines. Scott and Casey got a burger and fries, and I settled for the Blackened Chicken Sandwich. The guys ordered fries, but I didn’t. The gentleman cooking all of the food was super nice and apparently didn’t want me to feel left out, so he gave me fries on the side anyway.
There is no dining space inside, so patrons have the option on sitting outside on the plastic patio tables or taking their food to go. We choose to sit down. It was a beautiful day, and we wanted to enjoy it. Scott and Casey said their burgers were pretty good. However, my chicken sandwich was awesome. It was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It seems that, more often than not, these hole-in-the-wall, diner-like places seem to have the best food. This place fit along those lines.
Overall, this place has a super-friendly staff and good food. If I was downtown more frequently during the day, I would be back. This place mainly caters to the business lunch crowd, as they are only open until 3pm every day.
