Silky o’ Sullivans April 30, 2011

Silky ‘o Sullivans is one of many bars and restaurants located on the Historic Beale Street Downtown. Yet, Silky’s is my favorite Beale Street hot spot. It is my “Ole Faithful” of Beale. It always has the best music and atmosphere.

I was there on Saturday, to celebrate the Grizzlies playoff win (Go Grizz!). Scott and I mainly went to hang out on the patio and have a couple drinks. We were a little hungry, so we ordered food as well.

Scott got the nachos and I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. I know the picture below is of a burger and not chicken, but that is because they ordered me the wrong food. I said I would eat it, because I knew they were really busy and the food took a while to hit the table the first time.

Scott and both agreed the food was very “eh”. It was average. We will probably not order it again, but there was nothing to complain about.

All in all, the food was okay and the service was sub-par. However, these are not the reasons you go to Silky’s. This place is all about having a few drinks and listening to the zydeco band on their patio. Silky’s has the best patio on Beale, maybe in all of Downtown Memphis.

Also, don’t forget to check out the signature goat who is chilling out on the patio as well.

If you are not going to get the Silky’s Ale, brewed by Ghost River especially for Silky’s, then I highly suggest the Diver. This $18.00 beauty is built for a king. Nobody knows what all goes in this, as it is kept a secret. Yet, it is a beautiful mixture of beer, liquor, fruit juice, and “other stuff”. Best part? It comes in a bucket. This means you do not need to order one for yourself. Divers are meant for sharing.

If you go to Silky’s during the day, make sure to ask for Cliff. He is one of my all-time favorite people, and he will take great care of you. If you’re there at night, make sure to say what’s up to Hooper. He’s the manager, and he has a hard job. Let him know he’s doing it well.
